Providing clean, renewable energy off the shores of Virginia Beach
Our dedication to a clean environment continues to show in renewable energy initiatives such as our Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project. It will be only the second offshore wind project in the nation and the first owned by an electric utility company.
This project is the first utility owned offshore wind farm in the country.
We’re showing our commitment to net-zero emissions by leading the clean energy sector in offshore wind. When fully constructed in 2026, the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project anchored in the Hampton Roads region will deliver clean, renewable energy to the grid and will avoid millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The two wind turbines currently in operation are the first installed in U.S. federal waters and are avoiding up to 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. CVOW will deliver what our customers want and what the planet needs: clean, reliable, affordable energy.
The wind farm is located 27 miles off the shores of Virginia Beach.
Once fully built, the wind farm could power up to 660K homes.
Create 1,100 jobs once the wind farm is fully built.
Brings us closer to achieving our net-zero emission goals.
We are committed to delivering what our customers want and what the planet needs: energy that is clean, reliable, and affordable. Projects like CVOW enable us to deliver on that mission, allowing us to protect the environment while continuing to take care of our customers by providing reliable and affordable energy.
We are committed to building a sustainable energy future, with a plan to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide and methane emissions across our 13 states by 2050. When fully constructed in 2026, the CVOW project will deliver up to 8.8 million megawatts per year of clean, renewable energy to the grid, powering up to 660,000 Virginia homes. Providing this power with wind energy will avoid as much as 5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually—the equivalent of planting more than 80 million trees.
Investing in sustainable energy means Dominion Energy is creating new avenues for well-paying jobs. The Hampton Roads Alliance commissioned an offshore wind economic impact analysis that projects during construction and operation, the project will generate millions of dollars in economic impact and local and state taxes, and create thousands of construction and permanent jobs.
